Charcoal on machine made paper. Extreme foxing and iron deposits, paper acidic
and discoloured.

Future use: Framed
and hanging in private house.
Photographic and written documentation.
Paper dry surface cleaned recto and verso where possible. Mould killed and
charcoal fixed and the whole float and blotter washed. Paper extremely degraded
and brittle so lined with Japanese tissue. Spots resulting from mould damage
lightened over vacuum and larger discoloured areas lightened. Missing areas
of paper filled with paper pulp and image completed over barrier layer of cellulose.
Alkaline buffer introduced to the paper, humidified and pressed.
18th century estate
plan of Aboyne Castle, Aberdeenshire.
Extremely degraded with animal, insect and water damage, tears, creases and
missing areas. Stains from modern paint oil and mould.

Dry surface cleaned recto and verso. Mould killed and old repairs removed.
Pigments fixed and the whole float washed several times. Stained areas lightened.
Lined with double layer of strong tissue and stretch dried. Separated pieces
replaced missing areas filled with paper of similar weight and fibre length.
New Paper toned and lined as appropriate. Alkalised, humidified and pressed.
